Great Ape of Borneo
This journey will bring you to explore the land or the Great Ape of Borneo; the Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus). Wading through the Sekonyer river where you can still see the fresh water crocodile, the Borneo endemic Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) with their funny face with the long nose and a number of birds. On this exploration you will use wooden boat called “klotok” in by local people, a man made wooden about 12 m long and 2.5 m wide with a roof, which forms the upper deck where you can view the ecosystem and wildlife along Sekonyer River as it glides by. Simple mattress, pillow, meals, bottled “mineral” water, mosquito net, kitchen, simple toiletries are available on board

Day 1: Jakarta-Pangkalan Bun-Kumai-Pondok Tanggui Transfer to the airport. Fly Jakarta-Pangkalan Bun for about 1.5 hours. Arrive in Pangkalan Bun transfer to the harbor in Kumai (± 14 km). On board a wooden boat to Tanjung Putting National Park. You will slowly move on Kumai River for about 30 minutes and then entering its branch Sekonyer River where Tanjung Putting Natinal Park situated. While gliding you might enjoy the ecosystem on the estuary of Sekonyer River which is dominated by Nipah palm. More upper you go it changes into peat swampy forest. Along this par you will see groups of Prooscis or sometimes called Long-noosed monkey sitting on the branch having their food. Stay for overnight on the boat on Pondok Tanggui Station. (LD)
Day 2: Tanjung Harapan-Pondok Tanggui-Camp Leakey Breakfast on board and then go to feeding ground about 20 minutes walking from the pier. After seeing morning feeding you will do the hiking along the path at Pondok Tanggui Station. Return to the boat and continue to up river to Camp Leakey. Lunch will be served on board. After lunch to see afternoon feeding at Camp Leakey. Boat anchored anchored near Camp Leakey. Stay for overnight on the boat (BLD)
Day 3: Camp Leakey-Eco Lodge After breakfast you will take a chance for exploration at Camp Leakey. You will hike along the path at Camp Leakey to search for wildlife including to learn about function of the forest for the orangutan and also plants with medication function. Return to the boat. Lunch served while boat slowly moves down river to Tanjung Harapan for one night stay at eco lodge. Enjoy surrounding of the lodge and with luck you might see a number of birds from you veranda. Day 4: Eco Lodge-Kumai-Pangkalan Bun-Next Destinatoins Breakfast will be served at lodge. You will go on board again to leave for the harbor in Kumai. Drive Kumai to the airport in Pangkalan Bun. Fly Pangkalan Bun to the next destinations. Journey ends or continue with other exploration. (BL)
