Test Post in Birding
This program will bring you to trek across Mount Munjung (1,100m) on Meratus Mountain range, hike along the small patch of rain forest, walk along the plantation and stay for overnight at communal house belong to Meratus People and have little chat with the dwellers of the communal house about living as mountain and forest people. At the end of the journey you will wade through the rapid and stream on Amandit River by bamboo rafting. Before leaving Banjarmasin you will have the opportunity to enjoy the floating market and life along the river.

Day 1: Denpasar-Bedugul.
From Denpasar we will drive to the Central Highland with en-route stop at Pura (Temple) Batukaru. This temple is probably not as famous as Pura Besakih but it is one of very important temples for Balinese. This temple is located on the southern slope of Mount Batukaru. It was originally built in the 11th century and then destroyed in 1604, in 1959 it was rebuilt and remains until today. Batukaru temple has 7 tiers of Meru (Balinese pagoda) dedicated to the God of Mount Batukaru who protects Bali. From Batukaru Temple continue to Bedugul, a mountain area by side of Lake Bratan. This lake is well known for its Ulundanu Temple constructed few meters into the lake. Enjoy the afternoon to explore the lake and its surrounding. Bedugul is located on 1200 m above sea level. Day 2: Bedugul
We will have one full day to explore the forest in Bedugul Botanical Garden. Some species share with Java but sometime difficult to see in Java. Hopefully we can see the targets as many as possible that can help us to focus on difficult targets in Java. Night in Bedugul

After final birding in the morning, we will head to the northwest where Bali Barat National Park is located. Night in Bali Barat
Day 4-5: Bali Barat
We will have two full days in Bali Barat National Park. This National Park has several different habitats; savanna, mangroves, montane and mixed-monsoon forests. Night in Bali Barat

Day 6: Bali Barat-Denpasar-Banyuwangi-Mount Ijen.
We will start very early to cross by ferry for about 45 minutes to East Java. From the harbour we will drive to the highland in Mount Ijen. It is one of the active volcanoes in Java. Its highest peak is about 2,770 meters. The last big eruption was in 1999. Mount Ijen is also well known for its sulphur miners. Everyday miners from the nearby villages go through a kilometer path down to the crater of Mount Ijen to collect hardened blocks of sulphur. And then they carry almost 50-75 kg of these sulphur blocks through the same path up to the stacking place. They do it twice a day. Night in Banyuwangi
Day 7: Mount Ijen
Today we will explore the forest in Mount Ijen to search for as many targets as possible. Forest here is a montane forest. Birding activities will be along the road between 1,000 – 1,800 meters elevation. Depending on the result of our birding, we probably can make a visit to the sulfur mining to see the activities of the miners, but we will not go down to the crater as it is very toxic. Day 8: Banyuwangi-Baluran-Denpasar
This morning, before heading back to Bali, we will make a visit to Baluran National Park located on the north of Banyuwangi. This national park is well known for its savanna habitat, reminiscent of savanna in Africa. The highlights here include: Black-winged Myna (East Java ssp, the population in the wild is believed fewer than 250 mature individuals), Javan Pied Starling (very rare), Green Junglefowl, Green Peafowl, Cerulean Kingfisher, Orange-breasted Green Pigeon, Grey-cheeked Green Pigeon, Javan Cuckoo-shrike, Small Buttonquail, Brown Prinia, Grey-cheeked Tit Babbler, Island Collared Dove, Freckle-breasted Woodpecker, White-bellied Woodpecker, Common Flameback, Olive-winged Bulbuls, Olive-backed Tailorbird. As the temperature is getting hotter after 11:00, we will return to the harbour in Banyuwangi and then cross back to Bali. From the harbor in Bali drive to the south somewhere near the airport. The journey ends.
