Explore Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park

Gunung Halimun is part of Gunung Halimun – Salak National Park. It represents the type of lowland rain forest ecosystem, sub-montane and montane forest. Dense forest mostly covers the mountainous areas with several rivers and waterfalls. This area plays very important role as hydrological resources for lower areas such as Bogor, Lebak dan Sukabumi regencies. This area is also home for a number of protected animals and in endangered status such as Lesser Malay Mouse Deer (Tragulus javanicus javanicus), Javan Gibbon (Hylobates moloch), Javan Leaf Monkey (Presbytis comate), Ebony Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus auratus auratus), Barking Deer (Muntiacus muntjak muntjak), Panther (Panthera pardus), and Asian Wild Dog (Cuon alpines javanicus). There are about 204 species of bird which are 90 are permanent and 35 are classified endemic to Java, amongst other Javan Hawk-eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi), Spotted Crocias (Crocias albonotatus), and Rufous-fronted Laughingthrush (Garrulax rufifrons). In addition, border with a tea plantation makes this National Park special. Visitors will get variation of activities amongst other exploring biodiversity of Javan rain forest and visiting the village where the workers of tea plantation live including to see tea processing.

On this program you will have opportunity to explore the wild-life and rainforest of Java and also the life on tea plantation including process of tea since it is on the plantation to the packaging on the factory. Place to stay is depending on the availability at the guest house belongs to the national park or at the homestay run by tea plantation workers.

Day 1: Jakarta-Cikaniki or Citalahab: Departure from Jakarta at 05:30 to Cikaniki or Citalahab, you will drive through countryside and plantation including tea plantation. En-route stop is possible for taking photograph of beautiful landscape or any interesting objects. The whole trip might take about 4-5 hours until you reach accommodation at Citalahab or Cikaniki. Lunch will be provided en-route. Short exploration in the afternoon around the accommodation.

Day 2: Explore Halimun:
You will have full day to explore this area. In the morning is to hike through the rain-forest to observe wildlife with ending at a waterfall. Continue with visit to tea plantation to see tea processing and then return to the accommodation for lunch and then continue with afternoon exploration in the surrounding area.

Day 3: Cikaniki or Citalahab-Jakarta: Morning exploration until lunch time and then preparation to return to Jakarta via the same way. If time allows you can stop at Bogor Botanical Garden. Arrive in Jakarta is probably in the late afternoon or early evening. Exploration ends.

  • To avoid traffic jam earlier departure from Jakarta is necessary
